Since 2010 Colston’s Primary has been committed to becoming an Eco School. It has now achieved the status of Eco School for three years in a row making it one of the greenest schools in town!
This means that ‘green standards’ have been achieved in subject areas as diverse as ‘Healthy Living’ and ‘Litter’, ‘Biodiversity’, ‘Transport, ’Energy’ and ‘School Grounds’. This also means that all the children are actively involved in implementing the school green ethos.
Colston’s Primary has a very active Eco Council made up of children from all year groups. The children meet regularly to discuss eco topics and create appropriate action plans for the achievement of ever more ecological standards for the school.
During the last school year, Colston’s Primary’s children have:
Fitted all toilets with water saving devices
Carried out an electricity consumption survey and organised a big save fortnight that saved the school over £160 pounds! Our Eco Warriors patrol the school’s classrooms every day to make sure all lights are switched off when not in use
Been visited by experts who taught them about the importance care of our environment in order to preserve our wildlife.
Learnt more about Bristol’s green belt and how to help maintaining it
