Our annual International Week took place from Monday 27th to Friday 31st March. It was a wonderful week and involved all children in the school learning about different cultures, countries and languages with the week culminating in a celebration of international food and music on Friday after school in the hall at Cotham Grove. We are enormously lucky to have such diversity among our staff and children. Not only does this make for a truly vibrant and dynamic atmosphere for us all to enjoy, it also reminds us that Bristol is only a very tiny patch of a truly vast planet where wonders abound. International Week is our opportunity to celebrate these wonders.
Here are some photos from this year's wonderful event...

Year One had a fantastic International week! Lots of guest parents came in and shared music, songs, food and number learning in different languages. Everyone had a passport where they coloured in the country each guest parent was from. We learned a story from Argentina and watched what it would be like to run with the bulls in Spain! We learned to count to ten in Turkish, Arabic and Chinese! We also made pizzas from Italy, tried carrot cake from Brazil and hummus from Lebanon. An amazing experience for all!
What international fun was had in year 2! We started the week by talking about where our families came from and discovered that we are an amazingly diverse bunch. In 2B, we had parent visitors come in to talk about India, sing a Hindi prayer and even share some delicious sweets. We also had a go at playing the Indian sport of Kho-kho during PE and were lucky enough to have a session of bhangra taught by a dance teacher. Similarly, 2Y had a go a making some Indian sweets, which were simple to make and really tasty. Both classes learnt a beautiful Italian lullaby as well as a very funny German song, which had an extremely silly dance. We also learnt what it is like in Somalia and how the lifestyle and the landscape are different to Bristol. Likewise, in 2B we talked about Pakistan, its people and religions, and also ate some wonderful samosas, which caught some of us by surprise with their spiciness. It was a fantastic week that really helped us to appreciate how lucky we are to live on planet Earth!
For International week 3A celebrated lots of languages. We had Lilah’s mum come in to tell us about Thailand and we learnt some words in Thai. Rosie also taught the class a French song and Hannah sang them a Turkish song which her mum used to sing to her. Miss Pates taught the class counting 1-10 in Japanese which we performed in our class assembly. We spent an afternoon with Gianna learning a Italian song and some Italian phrases. 3A really enjoyed learning about the cultures within the class and talking about where their families were from. We really loved International week.
